Solr is a full text search engine with a web interface and based on the Lucene Core, a free software project by the Apache Software Foundation. Solr and Lucene were merged into one project in July 2011.
Lucene, which allows the indexing of documents with individual configurations (use of stop words, stemming etc.) and takes over the delivery of search results from the provided index, is used for diverse search applications in document collections for its power and scalability. Solr/Lucene is used as the search core technology application in enterprise search solutions, for searching in library catalogues, for e-commerce offers, and for searching Wikipedia.
